Learn More About the Ancient Livestock Guardian Breed
At first glance, the Bankhar may seem no different from the mixed-breed dogs wandering the streets of Ulaanbaatar. A young teenager who rescued these dogs from the streets and brought them home only later discovered that they belonged to one of the oldest dog breeds in the world.
Today, Delgeriin Tserenkhand is 34 years old and actively works to preserve this ancient breed, perfectly adapted to the harsh conditions of the Mongolian steppes and wetlands. The breed came close to extinction, particularly during the 1960s when Mongolia was under strong Soviet influence, as well as due to the impact of neighboring China.
For centuries, Mongolian Shepherd Dogs faithfully guarded livestock herds across Mongolia, and almost every nomadic family owned at least one of these remarkable dogs.
The Buryat-Mongolian Wolfdog, known in Mongolia as the Bankhar and in the Buryat language as "Khotosho" – meaning "yard wolf" or "guardian of the homestead" – is a legendary livestock guardian breed renowned for its courage and ability to protect against wolves and other predators.
Historically, these powerful and shaggy dogs guarded Buddhist monasteries, protected livestock, and watched over human settlements. They are highly intelligent, deeply loyal, and possess exceptionally strong protective instincts, making them outstanding guardians and devoted family companions.

United by trust, loyalty, and mutual respect, our dogs are not only exceptional guardians but also beloved members of our family. Every day, they remind us why we chose this remarkable breed and inspire us to preserve its heritage for future generations. 🐾❤️
Mongolian Culture and Its Guardians
In Mongolian culture, it is believed that Bankhar dogs share the same spirit as humans. They are regarded not merely as animals, but as loyal companions and guardians with a special connection to the human world.
When a Bankhar dies, its remains are traditionally placed on a mountaintop, bringing the dog closer to the spiritual realm and ensuring that no one will disturb its bones. Mongolian beliefs hold that humans may be reborn as dogs, and dogs may be reborn as humans. As part of this tradition, a deceased dog's tail is removed before burial so that its spirit may return as a human being—without the "shame" of having a tail.
For centuries, these dogs have been a great source of pride for Mongolia's nomadic families. They played an essential role in protecting livestock, homes, and entire communities across the vast steppes.
Unfortunately, over the past 80 years, many modern dog breeds have been introduced into Mongolia. Once the only dogs found throughout the country, Bankhars have become increasingly rare, making the preservation of this ancient breed more important than ever.

Puppy Reservations
Due to the breed's natural breeding cycle, Bankhar females usually have only one heat cycle per year, occurring during winter. As a result, puppies are available in limited numbers, and early reservation is highly recommended.
🐾 Reservations for the 2027 litter are currently being accepted.

Our puppy was exceptionally well-socialized, healthy, and perfectly prepared for life in a new home. Even after bringing our puppy home, we continued to receive valuable advice and support whenever needed.
It is evident that the dogs at Mongolian Team are treated as cherished members of the family. We wholeheartedly recommend Mongolian Team to anyone looking for a truly exceptional and loyal companion."
